Our Freedom is Tied Together!
Here’s a strong and hurtful reality: there are people in this world, right now, in this very moment - that truly believe there is no problem with owning another human being. They believe that their freedom is NOT tied to the freedom of those they own but rather that the lives of those people are less than and simply exist to make profit.
This is not a foreign concept, nor is it something that is happening in a far away land. No, Human Trafficking is happening in your neighborhood, in your city, in your schools, in your states, in your country. It’s happening in your backyard. Since that is true - we have a part to take in this. Why? Because OUR FREEDOM IS TIED TOGETHER!
Say it with me again, OUR FREEDOM IS TIED TOGETHER.
Say it a little louder, OUR FREEDOM IS TIED TOGETHER!
Say it for the people in the back, OUR FREEDOM IS TIED TOGETHER!
This is a truth that we can’t escape from, nor should we want to. If our freedom is tied together, that means we are responsible for fighting for the freedom of others. FREE PEOPLE FREE PEOPLE. This means we act with our freedom, we pray with our freedom, we seek justice with our freedom, we speak up with our freedom.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. - 2 Corinthians 3:17
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. - John 8:36
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love. - Galatians 5:13
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. - Galatians 5:1
There’s tons of scripture that speaks on freedom and what it means. Ultimately, with all of these verses - God is saying, I have given you freedom BUT you also have a role to play to bring my freedom to other places and people. Our freedom is not to just have. Nothing God gives us is just to have - it is to be used for His glory, for your betterment, and for the service of others.
So yes, this is our 2nd blog post about freedom. Yes, the first letter in our name stands for Freedom. Yes, we believe in it wholeheartedly and FULLY. This is why we are talking about it and we won’t stop until human trafficking and all forms of oppressive bondage end on earth.
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. What that means is that we get to bring more awareness to this injustice in our workplace, in our our communities, our churches, our homes, and anywhere else we find ourselves taking up space. It may be uncomfortable or difficult but the freedom of those in bondage deserves you get to out of your comfort zone and speak up for them, BECAUSE…..
OUR FREEOM IS TIED TOGETHER!
